STEVEN TAYLOR’S FAVORITE THINGS

Steven Taylor is a musician that somehow stumbled into becoming a successful photographer. After going to school for music he made his way across the country and ended up in Los Angeles shooting the likes of Snoop Dogg, Bruno Mars, Edward Sharpe, Incubus, John Mayer and more (check out his impressive portfolio here). Taylor’s own musical experience allows him to get the best out of his projects, capturing the essence of his subjects without compromising them.    

We caught up with the celebrity photographer and asked him about his favorite things:

Favorite photograph he hasn’t taken: This photo is iconic. In my opinion, it doesn’t get much better than a photo taken by one of the greatest rock and roll photographers of one the greatest men in rock and roll. So naturally, this photo is a favorite. As a photographer of musicians, this encompasses the goal I’m aiming for. Every aspect of it is perfect. 

Favorite photograph he’s taken: This is a hard question to answer because the photos I take are intentional so each one speaks to me in a big way. This one in particular is very mysterious and less up front than I normal. I like that about it. 

Favorite experience on the job: Last December, I spent some time in Australia with U2’s 360 tour. Each show had about 100,000 people in the audience, which was completely overwhelming. I’d never gotten chills on my face until that tour—it was that intense of an atmosphere. I never thought I’d get an opportunity like that at my age, so I’m still moved by how incredible an experience it was.

Favorite drink: Bourbon. My favorite isBlantons. 

Favorite watch: Since not all of us can afford a Hublot, I’m going to say March LAB. Great watches for a solid price.

Favorite sunglasses: I really like what Garrett Leight is doing right now.

Favorite travel bags: Ernest Alexander.

Favorite clothes: BLK DNM and Read’s Clothing Project. 

Favorite car: Anything German. 

Favorite film: The Brothers Bloom.

Favorite travel spot: Dublin. Do drinks at the Schoolhouse bar, if you go. 

Favorite shoes: Boots by Peter Nappi.

Favorite accessory: Cast of Vices jewelry.
